Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 201

“I’m getting out of here.” Julian wasn’t in the mood for another business dinner, so once he was outside, he didn’t bother looking back.

“It’s still early. Where are you off to? Let’s see if Brady wants to grab a drink with us.”

“No thanks. Noah’s home by himself.”

“Oh, come on. You really think your kid’s going to disappear if he’s alone for a little while?” Josh jogged after him, grinning.

By the time Madeline walked out of the hotel, the sky was already dark. She drove straight home.

Once Brenda heard Noah was back, she showed up at Madeline’s place with an armful of gifts, eager to spoil the little guy and catch up.

She’d also gotten all the juicy details about tonight and was laughing so hard that Marian thought she might actually pass out.

“I swear, those two women must’ve been fuming tonight, right?” Brenda was sprawled on the floor, cross-legged, cradling a giant bag of chips and giggling with her mouth full.

Madeline lounged on the couch, her head propped on one hand, smiling lazily. “Well, it looked like they wanted to tear me apart.”

The moment Noah heard someone wanted to hurt his mom, he wrapped his arms around her, eyes wide and worried.

Madeline’s heart softened. She hugged him back and ruffled his hair. “Don’t worry, baby. I’m just saying that for effect. No one can take me down.”

Noah relaxed and let go, reassured.

Brenda was nearly in tears from laughing. “God, what a shame I wasn’t there. I can only imagine how satisfying that scene was. And honestly, Madeline, did you know they’d show up tonight?”

Madeline gave a little nod, not really answering. “When Mira told me they insisted I show up in person, I already had a feeling what they were up to.”

There was no way they’d just give up if they couldn’t get to her through Tansy.

“Ugh, if I’d known, I would’ve ditched work and come with you.”

“Is gossip really more important than making money?”

“Obviously. Gossip is life.”
