Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 46

“Any other demands? Just get them all out now.”

“Third, let go of me.” Madeline glanced at the gap between them, then pushed him away.

Julian stepped back, that unreadable smile playing on his lips. “You agreed so easily. Don’t tell me you have some hidden agenda.”

Madeline wasn’t about to admit she just wanted to see the kid. His problems were not her concern. He could drop dead and she wouldn’t blink.

“If you think I’m up to something, don’t come asking for my help.” Madeline brushed imaginary dust from her clothes, smoothed her shirt, and walked off.

At the Monroe estate, Madeline stepped out of the car and stared at the fancy villa in front of her, a cold smile curving her lips. Her mom had bought this place, but now Drew’s name was on the deed. After living here for more than ten years, she found it almost unbearable to look at.

She walked into the living room. Drew, Raine, and Kate were sitting together, chatting and laughing. The moment they saw Madeline, all three froze. It was like they couldn’t believe she actually dared to come back.

Seeing Madeline, so calm and composed, sent a surge of jealousy and bitterness through Raine. She hated Madeline with every fiber of her being. Why did Madeline have to be better than her at everything? Looks, brains, body—she was always ahead. Raine was Drew’s daughter too, but she’d spent years as the illegitimate one, shoved to the sidelines.

Raine’s eyes burned with hate as she turned to Drew, her voice trembling with fake sadness. “Dad, she’s back. I’m scared.”

Drew gave Raine a gentle, comforting look, and when his eyes landed on Madeline, all that warmth turned to disgust. Like she was a stranger, not his child.
