Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 76

Julian stopped in his tracks so suddenly that Noah walked straight into his legs and ended up clutching his head in pain.

“Dad?”

“Why are you dragging your feet? Are you scared I’ll yell at you?”

Noah thought, “Scared you’ll see two of me and have a heart attack, more like.”

“Yes, Dad. I’m sorry.”

“Is it going to happen again?”

Noah hesitated, but forced a quick answer. “No.”

Julian sighed, studying him for a moment. Oliver didn’t look as bubbly as usual. Julian couldn’t bring himself to scold the kid too much, not when he’d only just started to come out of his shell. “Alright, I won’t punish you, but don’t let it happen again.”

“Okay, got it.”

Julian squeezed Noah’s hand and gave him a faint smile. “Good boy.”

Noah’s heart was pounding. He could already imagine the disaster waiting for him if they ran into Oliver as soon as they walked in. Whatever. He’d done his best. If they got caught, they got caught.

He crept into the living room, nerves in overdrive. The piano tutor was still sulking, convinced he must be doing something wrong. The kid had been so good at practice, then suddenly everything turned into random banging on the keys.

When he saw Noah coming in from outside, the tutor frowned and approached with uncertainty. “Noah, didn’t you just go up to your room? Why are you coming from outside?”

Noah froze for a split second, but quickly covered. “Oh, I changed my mind about going to my room, so I went to find Dad instead.”

“But…” The tutor seemed confused. He’d been in the living room the whole time and hadn’t seen Noah leave.

Noah jumped in before he could finish. “Can I go to my room now and rest for a while?”

Lucy would be coming soon and Julian didn’t want to put Noah through another round of scolding, so he nodded. “Go ahead.”

Noah bolted upstairs. The moment he opened his door, he saw Oliver sprawled out on the bed, dead asleep.
