Julian’s insomnia was no joke. He had seen every specialist he could find, but nothing ever seemed to work. When he heard that there was a doctor here in Country Y who was supposed to be amazing at alternative medicine, he dropped everything and flew in from the capital. And what happened? She told him she couldn’t help. Couldn’t, or just didn’t want to? For the first time, Julian found himself completely brushed off. And the weirdest thing was, that doctor looked exactly like someone he used to know... someone who was long gone.
The more Julian thought about it, the more annoyed he got. He shot a sharp look at Miles. “Go talk to the director and get me that doctor’s info,” he said, voice icy.
Miles nodded right away. “Yes, I’ll take care of it.”
Helene had noticed the dark look on Julian’s face, and the way he suddenly wanted a doctor’s file. She leaned in a little, concern in her voice. “What’s going on, Julian?”
He didn’t feel like explaining. “Nothing.”
Helene frowned, clearly confused, but decided not to push it. It was just some doctor, after all. Her gaze drifted toward Oliver, who was watching her with a serious little face. Helene couldn’t help the flash of annoyance in her eyes. She’d almost pulled off her plan today, but some random woman had to show up and ruin everything.
She rolled her eyes quickly, but when she looked back, her smile was sweet and gentle. “Noah...”
Oliver dodged her hand when she reached out to touch his head.
The smile froze on Helene’s lips, her hand left awkwardly hanging in the air.
Oliver frowned back at her. So this was the lady who was going to get engaged to his lousy dad? She really didn’t seem like a good person. Her eyes were cold and mean, even though her face was all fake smiles and sweetness.
Helene looked at Julian, her expression suddenly pitiful. Julian knew perfectly well that Helene and Noah never got along. He wasn’t surprised at Oliver’s attitude at all. His voice was flat. “Let’s go home.”
