Madeline was thinking the same thing. She needed to find a chance to see her child, and soon.
“Okay.”
“If you need anything, just tell me,” Brenda said.
“I will. Thanks, Brenda.”
After hanging up, Madeline sat for a long moment, turning things over in her mind. She finally decided to consult a lawyer, just to see if there was any real shot at winning Noah’s custody.
Once she’d explained her history with Julian, the lawyer could only shake his head. The odds weren’t great. Unless Julian willingly gave up custody, it would be almost impossible for her to get Noah back. Noah had lived with Julian since he was little. Whether or not Noah even wanted to leave Julian was one thing, but the bigger problem was Julian’s resources. Madeline couldn’t compete with his money or his influence, not even close.
It felt hopeless. She had her own company, a solid job, and she was doing well for herself, but if it came down to fighting the Grayson family in court, she didn’t stand a chance. The Graysons basically ran the city.
Madeline felt a headache coming on. If she couldn’t win through the legal system, what was she supposed to do? She definitely couldn’t just steal Noah away.
After hours of talking and getting nowhere, she left the lawyer’s office feeling completely defeated.
On the other side of town, Julian didn’t leave the hospital until Noah had eaten and fallen asleep. He finally got into his car, rubbing his forehead, as Miles gave him the update.
“Sir, all the security footage from last night was wiped. No evidence left behind at all. But from what Ms. Fortner described, those guys were professionals. My guess is they weren’t from the city.”
Helene had said they acted like they owned the place, didn’t show a hint of fear toward the Graysons. In this city, even their worst enemies wouldn’t dare pull something like that. No one wanted to take on the Graysons unless they had a death wish.
“That’s all you’ve got?” Julian asked.
“Um… for now, yes.” Miles looked down, almost shrinking into his seat.
Julian frowned. “Just take me to the office.”
