Clara gave a gentle knock on the door, only stepping in once she heard Emmett's response.
The scent of alcohol filled the room and she frowned slightly, "Mr. Melendez, are you drinking on the job?"
"What if I am?" Emmett stood up, pulling her in by the waist, "If you don't want me to, then—"
"No, go ahead!" Clara, guessing what he was about to say, quickly handed him his drink with a smile, "Have as much as you want. Best if you drink till you pass out."
Emmett chuckled helplessly, "Am I that disappointing?"
Clara blushed slightly, "What on earth are you saying in broad daylight!"
"You're as bad at pretending not to know as you are at lying!"
Clara knew she couldn't out-argue him, so she didn't bother. "Did you call me over just to watch you drink?"
"Of course not." Emmett guided her to sit down and handed her a document, "Take a look at this."
Clara took it, opened it up…
It was a project plan from AW Corporation.
She glanced at Emmett, not understanding his intentions.
"This is…?"
"AW Corporation is planning a new real estate project. They're thinking of teaming up with the foreign MF Group to finance a large-scale residential business district." Emmett took a sip of his drink, "Did you spot any issues in this plan?"
Clara hesitated, flipping through the first few pages.
"Do you have any thoughts on this?"
"…What could I possibly have to say? I don't work for AW Corporation."
"Can you resist the urge to warn Taylor?" Emmett stared at her.
His gaze was deep, making it impossible to decipher his true intentions.
"Why should I be the one to warn him? Taylor and I are just old acquaintances! Emmett, you're testing me, aren't you?"
"If you see it as a test."
"But why are you always on guard with me, constantly testing me?" Clara really didn't understand Emmett, "You've hinted multiple times that I should cut ties with Elio, now you're using Taylor to test me. You still don't trust me, thinking I might do something bad, right?"
