Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 162

Aaron seemed a bit miffed after hearing this.

"So why'd you let her help you, huh? She's been acting all weird since she got back. What's the real deal, Elio?"

Elio just shrugged, "No biggie."

"Well, you better spill the beans, then!"

"And what? You can ship Leah back home?"

"...I ain't worried about her going home! It's good she volunteered to help our company. But I'm worried she's gonna get swindled by some folks. She's so naive, doesn't have a clue!"

Elio snorted, "Your daughter... naive?"

Aaron's face serious.

"And what's that supposed to mean? She's your sister, and you talk about her like that?"

"As long as she doesn't mess with the happiness of the person I care about, we're still family. But if she does... I won't let her off the hook!"

"You—you'd ditch your own family for a woman? Don't forget, she agreed to help you without a second thought!"

Elio stood up, not wanting to hang around any longer.

"Maybe you should focus more on your own daughter!"

"You—"

Elio had had enough of this place.

He had never been a fan of these kind of shindigs.

He left the banquet hall and headed straight for his car.

She knocked on the door and only entered after hearing Emmett's voice from inside.

Emmett, sitting behind his desk, smiled when he saw her. "How's your friend doing?"

"She had a car accident, but she's okay now! Just a mild concussion and a few scrapes."

"I've never met this friend of yours. When will you introduce us? I'd like to know more about your world."

Clara was taken aback!

"My friend... she's not really into meeting new people."

"Are you going to keep using that excuse?" Emmett looked at her, puzzled. "I get why you wouldn't let me meet your son. But why are you keeping your friend away from me too? Is she, by chance, a special someone?"

"Absolutely not!" Clara quickly responded. "My friend would be nervous knowing you're the CEO of the Melendez Group. We talked about it and she wants to meet you once she's recovered. Don't read too much into it."
