"Me? I'm... Leah Calloway."
"You're a Calloway too! That's a rare last name, same as my daughter-in-law."
"Oh, really? What a coincidence!" Leah chuckled, "I have some stuff to take care of, have a nice day."
Sophia Melendez waved quickly, "Same to you. You're a good girl, if you ever need help, don't hesitate to approach us, the Melendez family. I'll make sure to repay you."
"Thank you!"
Leah left the pastry shop, lightly touching her red lips.
Seems like it's not a good idea to mess with Emmett Melendez, then... his mother probably wouldn't be so fond of Clara Calloway, would she?
Back at the Melendez residence, as soon as Clara and Emmett walked through the door, Alex ran out like a clingy puppy.
But this time was different, Aiden was trailing behind him.
"Dad, Mom! You're finally back! Grandma bought us some super tasty pastries today, I ate so much I don't even want dinner!" Alex rambled on, "Aiden thought you guys might like them too, so he saved some for you."
Clara playfully tapped his little nose, "What about you? Did you save some for us?"
Alex was taken aback, then he squinted his eyes and gave a mischievous grin, "I... I loved them too much! Besides, Aiden saved some for you, that should be enough for adults!"
Emmett was helpless too, patting his little head, "If you guys like them, I'll send someone to buy more."
Sophia glanced at her, but showed no intention of letting go.
"No need, I'd never feel tired for them. On the contrary, if I'm not around them in the future, you must take good care of them. Don't let them be bullied just because they don't have a mother."
Emmett caught the undertone in her words and quickly intervened, "Mom, what are you implying? Clara has never done anything to make us feel like she would bully them because they don't have their biological mother."
"All the better then. I was just mentioning it, no harm intended!" Sophia said with a smile, then turned to Clara, "Don't take it to heart! I'm just straightforward! These two kids are my world! If they're mistreated, it's like I'm being mistreated! I'm just saying this in advance to maintain peace in our family, you don't mind, do you?"
Clara waved her off, "Of course not!"
At this point, Emmett, with a stern face, said, "Mom, can I speak with you in the study?"
