Emmett rubbed his temples with a weary sigh, his fatigue written all over his face.

It took him a moment before he spoke up, his thin lips barely moving. "I'll give it some more thought. Keep an eye on Elio, and check into that female friend Clara keeps mentioning. I've never met her, but she keeps popping up in Clara's stories. And about that lumber shipment, I've had my suspicions, but like you said, I've been too worked up over Clara's antics to think straight."

Ricardo couldn't help but crack a smile. "That's the spirit, Mr. Melendez! Clara must have her reasons. I mean, even if you lined up all the guys in the world in front of her, she shouldn't be swayed because, after all, her husband is the most perfect man on earth!"

Emmett shot him a look. "Cut the flattery! I'm entrusting you with the company's affairs. Make sure everything runs smoothly so I don't have to worry about it from the hospital."

Ricardo nodded vigorously, giving a thumbs up. "You can count on me. I practically live at the office now. Everything's under control."

"Good, I trust you with the company."

Just as Ricardo was about to speak again, there was a knock at the door.

"Emmett, I brought you guys some fruit," Sophia's voice came through, and after not hearing any objections, she cautiously pushed the door open.

Upon seeing Ricardo, she smiled and approached. "Here, have some fruit. I just washed them. You've been a big help with the company while Emmett is recovering in the hospital. I appreciate it and will make sure to reward you properly."

Ricardo waved his hands dismissively, grinning. "Sophia, serving Mr. Melendez is an honor! I don’t need rewards. If it weren't for Mr. Melendez's support, I'd probably still be hustling on the streets somewhere!"
