Watching the comment sections descend into chaos, Amara marveled again at the sheer power of fandoms before putting her phone down to think.
She knew this would happen the moment Keith spoke up for her; she was just too controversial a figure. And frankly, she was sick of people online calling her ugly. She had to find a way to put a stop to it.
An idea began to form.
After rummaging through a few drawers, she found a phone stand she’d bought but rarely used. She set up her phone, applied some light makeup, fixed her hair, and changed into a simple, elegant dress. Then, she stood in front of the camera and recorded a short video.
“Hi everyone, I’m Amarise, the screenwriter. This is the first time I’m appearing without a mask, and it still feels a little strange, but I’m happy to finally show you all my real face…”
In the video, she briefly explained how her face had been injured and that it had long since healed. Then she addressed her relationship with Keith.
She explained that they were childhood friends and had always been incredibly close, which was why he had gotten so angry when he heard people attacking her looks.
But, she clarified, they were only friends. Nothing more. She asked everyone to please stop speculating.
The video was originally about five minutes long, but she edited it down to a crisp three and a half minutes before logging into her Twitter and posting it.
Just as she’d expected, the post caused an absolute firestorm online.
Most people had only ever seen the one unmasked photo of her disfigured face, and their impression of her was that she was horrifyingly ugly. They were completely unprepared for the reveal that her face had healed. She was, to their astonishment, stunningly beautiful—beautiful enough to outshine any actress in the industry. The internet was floored.
