Her words struck Finnian like a physical blow.
He was sobered by the truth in them—he knew she wasn’t in the wrong—but the pain was still unbearable.
His heart felt like it was being ripped in two. He could barely stand, barely speak.
He’d known for a while that he loved Amara, but he had never realized how deep that love ran. Even after letting her go, the thought of her with another man was more than he could bear.
Finnian knew he had to get out of there before he completely lost control. He turned and walked away, his steps heavy.
Watching his retreating figure, so desolate and heartbroken, Amara clenched her fists, a confusing mix of emotions churning inside her.
What was wrong with him?
He was acting as if he couldn't stand the thought of her with someone else, as if he actually cared for her. But look at what he’d done.
First, he’d had a child with Liliana. After the child was lost, he’d chosen to stay with Liliana. He was clearly in love with her.
So why, after learning about her own baby, was he acting like a madman?
Amara felt a surge of anger and sorrow. Her eyes began to burn, but she refused to cry over this. She bit her lip hard, forcing the tears back.
The doctor stood by, stunned. Had he just stumbled into some kind of high-society drama?
Amara managed a weak smile. “Thank you, Doctor. You can write up the prescription. I’ll have someone pick it up later.”
“Ah, yes. Of course.” The doctor nodded quickly, eager to escape. He scribbled on his pad without another word.
Elysia and Keith had left to handle something else. After the doctor departed, Amara was alone for a while before Elysia returned by herself.
Seeing Amara alone in the room, Elysia asked, “Where’s Finnian? Did he leave?”
The mention of his name made Amara’s heart sink.
To be honest, she had always suspected that Amara wouldn’t be able to hide the pregnancy from Finnian forever.
She’d always had a feeling that, even though he was supposedly in love with Liliana, he held a special place in his heart for Amara.
Whether it was familial affection, love, or guilt, she couldn't say. But what was certain was that Finnian genuinely cared about Amara.
It was inevitable that he would keep tabs on her.
And if he was watching over her life, he was bound to find out about the baby eventually.
So, after the initial shock, Elysia wasn’t entirely surprised.
“How did he take it?” she asked.
