She was intensely curious about Finnian’s reaction.
At the question, a look of confusion crossed Amara’s face.
“He had a huge reaction. It was like he couldn’t accept the fact that I had been with another man and was carrying his child. But he’s in love with Liliana, so why should he care about another woman?”
Elysia thought for a moment. “I’ve always felt that Finnian has some sort of special feelings for you. I don’t know what they are, exactly, but he definitely cares about you a great deal.”
Finnian had risked his life for her time and again; Amara couldn’t deny he felt something for her. But it couldn’t be love. That would make his devotion to Liliana completely nonsensical.
“He probably feels guilty,” she reasoned. “He neglected me for three years, and Mr. Kevin Everly adores me, so Finnian feels a responsibility to make sure nothing bad happens to me.”
“Wait, didn’t he confess his feelings to you once?” Elysia suddenly remembered. “Do you think he might actually have…”
“I used to think he might really like me,” Amara said, shaking her head. “But look at how he treats Liliana.”
“Even though he said he liked me, I think Liliana is the only one he’s ever truly loved. He just didn’t realize it himself.”
Hearing that, Elysia didn’t know what else to say.
“Finnian is so strange,” she muttered. “I’ve never met a more complicated man…”
Just then, the door to the room opened, and both women turned to see Lucian rushing in, out of breath. “Ama, are you okay? What happened?”
“I’m fine,” Amara assured him. “Where did you just come from?”
Lucian was still in costume, clearly having rushed over from a film set. He was currently playing the second male lead in a period drama.
Knowing his best friend had a soft spot for Amara, he’d wanted to check on her after learning of the kidnapping. But the first thing he saw upon entering was Lucian standing by the hospital bed—next to Elysia.
That was more than he could tolerate. His face instantly darkened. “Why are you with him again?” he growled.
Seeing Elysia and Lucian together filled him with rage and jealousy.
Then another thought struck him: if this pretty boy was here, Elysia must have been the one to call him.
She had notified this actor but hadn’t bothered to tell her own husband. Where exactly did he stand in her life?
