Mr. Kevin Everly watched the two "kids" bustling around the counter, a smile in his eyes.
He had given up on the idea of Finnian and Amara getting together, but it was clear that Finn still cared a great deal for Ama.
*Oh, well. Let them sort it out themselves. It's not like I can control them anyway,* he thought. *I'm getting old. I should just do as Ama suggested: focus on my own life and enjoy my golden years.*
Soon, all the ingredients were ready. Finnian brought out a divided hot pot, placed it on the table, and started boiling the water with the soup bases. Then it was time to eat.
Sitting around a table with family on a cold winter day, sharing a steaming hot pot, was a truly blissful experience, and Amara felt it deeply at that moment.
She wasn't a picky eater and enjoyed both meat and vegetables. She also knew Mr. Kevin Everly's favorites and would use her chopsticks to place food on his plate as they ate.
While she was taking care of Mr. Kevin Everly, Finnian was taking care of her.
Finnian knew she loved tofu skin and shrimp paste, so he would deliberately cook them, wrap a slice of meat inside the tofu skin along with some shrimp paste, and quietly place it on her plate.
It was a delicious combination, but having Finnian constantly serve her was a bit embarrassing. Yet, refusing the food he prepared would be too deliberate and make things even more awkward. Amara was in a bit of a bind.
Finnian, of course, noticed her discomfort and stopped serving her directly. He simply told her to eat more, saying that she needed to get more nutrients now that winter was here.
Amara knew what he really meant—that she needed to eat well because she was pregnant.
Hearing those words from the baby's biological father gave her the strange illusion that they were a couple, waiting together for their child to be born.
