Given Edith and Nathan's attitude before, Elysia had thought it would take ages to get the documents, if they could get them at all. She was pleasantly surprised that Keith had managed it in just a few days.
But Amara wasn't as happy. "I feel like something's off with Keith," she mused.
"What do you mean?"
"I can't put my finger on it. His expression was just... strange. When I asked him about it, he wouldn't say anything. Plus, I think he got those papers way too easily."
Someone as stubborn as Edith wouldn't give in just because of a threat. Both she and Nathan seemed like the type who responded to persuasion, not pressure.
Elysia considered this. Amara had a point. "You're right, that is strange. So what do you think is going on?"
Just as they were talking, the living room door opened, and Dorian walked in, with Finnian right behind him.
Dorian raised an eyebrow, surprised to see Amara at his house, while Amara and Elysia were equally stunned to see him return with Finnian.
Dorian had been out discussing business with Finnian, and afterward, he'd invited him over for a drink. He never expected Amara to be there—what a coincidence.
Dorian glanced at Finnian and saw his eyes were, as expected, glued to Amara. He couldn't help but smile. His best friend was truly smitten.
He hung his keys on the wall hook, and both men slipped off their shoes before walking in. "Look who's here," he said.
Elysia ignored him, frowning. "Why are you two back in the middle of the day?"
She had stayed home from work because she wasn't feeling well, but Dorian was fine, so why was he home so early?
