Amara was getting angry now. “Mr. Everly, what do you think you’re doing? Why are you forcing me to come with you?”
“You argued with Keith earlier, didn’t you?” Finnian asked, cutting straight to the point.
“Someone passed by the dressing room while you were fighting and overheard a few things. They told me what happened. What’s going on with you and Keith?”
Amara froze.
So, someone had heard her and Keith arguing.
It wasn't surprising, really. They had both gotten emotional toward the end, and their voices had risen. It was only natural that someone might have overheard.
Amara lowered her head. “Nothing happened. Please don’t ask, Mr. Everly.”
She looked so dejected, and her eyes were still glossy with unshed tears. Did she have any idea how much it looked like someone had hurt her?
Finnian was consumed with worry. “Did Keith hurt you?”
“No, not at all.”
Amara quickly denied it.
Keith hadn’t hurt her. This whole mess started because he was trying to do something good for her, something she never wanted him to do.
But Finnian didn’t seem convinced. He still thought Keith had mistreated her. His face darkened as he stood up. “I’m going to have a word with him.”
“Hey, don’t go.”
Seeing Finnian about to leave, Amara should have been angry, but for some reason, she felt a small urge to laugh.
“He really didn't hurt me. That’s not what we were arguing about,” she said, grabbing his arm.
