**TITLE: Alpha Novel 385**
Secretly, Alexander found himself chuckling at the name Olivia had chosen for the little creature nestled in her arms. It was a bit—well, for lack of a more fitting term—cheesy. Yet, he was careful to maintain a cheerful expression, not wanting to dampen her enthusiasm.
“I think that name is absolutely perfect,” Alexander declared with genuine approval, his words eliciting a radiant smile from Olivia that lit up the room.
For a fleeting moment, he had to collect himself; her smile was utterly disarming. She was simply breathtaking, and it left him momentarily speechless.
The two exchanged smiles, and in that instant, the bustling world around them faded into oblivion. It was as though they were cocooned in their own little universe, blissfully unaware of anyone else.
But that sense of isolation was a mere illusion.
Across the table, Jess sat with her arms crossed, her expression a mask of barely contained fury as she observed the intimate interaction between Alexander and Olivia. It was painfully clear to her that the chemistry between them was electric. Each shared glance felt like a dagger piercing through her heart, twisting painfully with every passing second.
How could Alexander possibly choose someone of Olivia’s stature? What could she offer him that Jess herself could not? The thought gnawed at her insides, a bitter taste of betrayal and disbelief.
Her breath caught sharply in her throat when she witnessed Alexander kneel before Olivia, gently cradling the tiny cat in his strong arms. This tender side of him was one she had never been privy to before. Why was it that Olivia could draw out such warmth from him while she had only ever experienced his more guarded demeanor? A cruel laugh almost escaped her lips upon hearing the ridiculous name Olivia had given the cat.
How could Alexander prefer that silly girl over her?
Was this some sort of performance for Jess’s sake? Was he deliberately trying to provoke jealousy? That seemed to be the only reasonable explanation for his behavior. Surely, he wouldn’t be acting this way if she weren’t present. The thought provided her with a modicum of comfort, as if to reassure her that this was all just a game.
But then, when Alexander took Olivia’s hand in his, a wave of fury surged through Jess. She felt an overwhelming urge to tear their hands apart, to obliterate the connection they shared. The sight of him so happy with someone else was unbearable. She almost stood up to leave, but a memory of her godmother’s insistence to intervene and disrupt the budding romance between Olivia and Alexander held her back.
