And if she really was involved in switching Natalie at birth twenty years ago, what is she after now? A stream of questions rushed through Waylon’s mind, yet none of them had an answer that made sense.

Maybe only Rachel herself could give them the truth–and Flynn agreed she’d outlived her usefulness.

“Alright,” he said. “I’ll have Dylan keep her under control–quietly.”

Just then, Flynn’s phone rang.

Seeing Dylan’s name on the screen sent a flicker of unease through him.

Waylon noticed the change in his expression, his frown deepening.

“Answer it.”

Flynn swiped to pick up, and Dylan’s voice came through at once.

“Mr. Waylon, Rachel’s gone.”

“What did you say?”

Flynn shot to his feet, while Waylon’s expression darkened.

“What happened? She was with you–how could she just disappear?”

Dylan’s voice carried guilt as he explained.

“Rachel’s arm was injured by Jensen–she was bleeding badly. When we returned, Ocean City was under lockdown, so we had to land in Meridia instead and took her to the hospital. But once she went in to get her wound treated, she never came out. When we rushed in, the doctor was unconscious. She’d escaped through the window. There are no cameras here; we don’t know where she went.”

Waylon listened in silence, his tone turning cold. “She’s sharp–knew she’d be exposed once she came back, so she ran ahead of time. But it’s also possible someone tipped her off.”

Thinking back to the man who’d shown up at the house, Waylon couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d seen him before, though the memory refused to surface,

Flynn’s worry was written all over his face. “Dad, what do we do now?”

“We’ll wait until Baron and the others return. Ocean City’s sealed off; if our people managed to get to Meridia, Baron probably did too. Call him–tell him everything’s settled here and that he needs to come back immediately.”

“Got it.”

Flynn quickly dialed Baron’s number.

He expected him to pick up right away, but the call rang and rang before disconnecting automatically. No one answered.

Flynn’s heart sank.

“Dad, Baron’s not answering. You don’t think something’s happened to him, do you? What if something went wrong—what if my sister didn’t make it out?”

Waylon refused to believe it. He pulled out his own phone and tried calling Baron, but the result was the same.

His expression grew grim.

“Have Dylan investigate–find out whether Baron actually landed in Meridia. If he did, why isn’t he answering? Whatever’s going on, we need to know. If we have to, we’ll go there ourselves.”

Not being able to rescue Natalie from Ocevaris himself already tore Waylon apart; if something had happened to Baron because of it, he would never forgive himself.

Flynn hurried off to contact Dylan, while on the other end, Baron was already in trouble.

Not just Baron–Shauna, Westin, and every one of their men had all collapsed.

Rachel watched them fall one by one before pulling off her hood and wiping away her makeup.

A cold, mocking smile curved her lips. “Useless. Even with the Stone family backing you and all these men at your disposal, you’re still nothing but a failure.”

She kicked the takeout box by her feet aside.

When she’d seen Jensen point a gun at her on Ocevaris, she’d been completely stunned; but once the pain set in, she’d come to her senses–remembering what she’d come here for.

She hadn’t expected him to actually shoot her. The thought stung–of course it did–but when she remembered that Jensen didn’t know who she really was, she couldn’t bring herself to resent him. Judging by his condition now, his life didn’t seem to be in danger.

That was when she’d tried to find out whether the man in front of her–Dylan–was really Moses. Yet every attempt was blocked. Even when she tried to make a call, she realized her phone was being tracked; the people around her were watching her every move. So I’ve been exposed.

Maybe the Stone family had sent her to Ocevaris just to dig something out of her.

The realization struck her like lightning–but Rachel hadn’t survived within the Stone family for more than twenty years by being careless.

She’d deliberately let her wound fester and insisted on being taken to the hospital; once alone with the doctor, she knocked him out and escaped through the window.

Now, recalling everything that had happened, Rachel thought things through carefully. If Baron really had rescued Natalie, then given all the resistance they’d faced, they must have landed in Meridia too.
