Chapter 317: The Unexpected Choice

The crowd and fans remained intensely curious about Sabrina. Everyone wanted to uncover the truth behind her mysterious persona.

Especially the devoted followers of Amelia and Selena—they all hoped Sabrina was genuinely kind-hearted. They longed for their idols to have companions who were equally intelligent, capable, and beautiful.

Soon after, the production team began distributing tasks. Each participant was assigned their lodging and provided with one meal for the day. Beyond that, if anyone wished to eat more, they would have to earn it themselves.

“You can either help with planting or work on developing potions to cultivate medicinal herbs to get food or upgrade your lodging,” the host explained clearly. “Or, if that’s not your strength, you can earn rewards by participating in talent shows or other activities—as long as someone is willing to pay you for it, it counts.”

As the rules sank in, Gianna and Vincent exchanged a quick glance filled with irritation. The setup was clearly skewed to favor those with pharmaceutical expertise—totally unfair.

Still, Gianna remained unfazed. After all, she had her secret line to Regina. She could showcase her professional skills and, if needed, dazzle through dancing, playing instruments, or any other talent. She felt a quiet confidence building inside her.

With no objections, everyone headed toward their assigned rooms. When they arrived, the group was taken aback. Apart from a simple bed and a wardrobe, the rooms were bare.

Maxwell and Vincent looked particularly shocked. Both had grown up surrounded by luxury and had never experienced such stark simplicity. Even their camping trips were outfitted with all the comforts they could want.

“We’re supposed to stay here? On this bed?” Vincent blurted out, disbelief clear in his voice.

“Can’t you switch us to something better? A nicer room or at least a better bed?” Maxwell quickly added, hoping for a reprieve.

“No,” the host replied with a polite smile. “Unless you perform well and earn an upgrade for your room and meals.”

If everyone started off with the best accommodations, what would be the point of competing? Besides, the show celebrated real researchers—people who made great contributions while living simply. No pain, no gain.

“If you want luxury and to live like princes, you’re free to quit now,” Jeremy’s sharp voice cut through the air like a knife.

The two men were silenced instantly, standing there with open mouths, too embarrassed to respond. What a jerk, they thought.

“Mr. Curran, my brother and Vincent didn’t mean any offense,” Gianna quickly interjected, trying to smooth things over. “They’re new to variety shows and don’t know the rules yet. Please don’t blame them.”

“Shut up. Your voice is already annoying,” Jeremy snapped back.
