Henrietta snapped out of her thoughts and shook her head. “No, that’s not it. He just gave it casually. We… we barely know each other.”
Sabrina looked unconvinced.
Just then, Hector and Quinton came home and overheard the conversation.
Quinton’s gaze sharpened slightly. “The meeting with the Leland family didn’t work out?”
Sabrina immediately defended her daughter. “It must have been that Leland boy. I’ve always found him far too arrogant.”
Not wanting to dwell on her first failed blind date, Henrietta said, “Alright, Mom, Dad, I’m going to go wash up and get some rest.”
“Have you eaten?” Sabrina asked. “Do you want something?”
“Have someone bring it to my room,” Henrietta called back as she walked away.
After she had showered, there was a knock on her door. When she opened it, Quinton was standing there with a tray of food. Henrietta paused, then reached for the tray. “Thank you, Quinton.”
“Can we talk?” he asked.
She had no choice but to let him in.
Henrietta carried the tray to her small dining table and began to eat. Quinton sat down opposite her, loosening his tie.
“Why did it fall through?”
“We just don’t see eye to eye,” she explained.
“That’s how blind dates go sometimes,” Quinton said. “Joaquin… he’s not the most reliable person. He’s known for being aggressive in his business dealings, and also…”
Henrietta raised an eyebrow. “Also what?”
“He’s not much of a womanizer, but he’s very close with his adopted younger brother.”
