Winona, however, seemed unusually curious and peppered her with questions.
Henrietta slowly raised an eyebrow and typed: [Are you interested in Joaquin?]
Silence from Winona.
Charlotte tagged her. [!!! No way! Winona, is it true?]
Winona denied it. [No. I’m just being nosy.]
Despite her denial, Henrietta had a hunch. Winona was known for her curiosity, but this was excessive. Perhaps Winona was a bit embarrassed, since the Lelands had approached the Sargents for an alliance and not her family, the Stetsons.
Winona changed the subject. [So, is Yosef next?]
Henrietta didn’t answer, still mulling over the possibility of Winona’s interest in Joaquin.
Charlotte chimed in. [Yosef is a great choice! If for no other reason, he’s incredibly generous. I mean, a multi-billion-dollar birthday gift he just gave away casually. If you have to marry someone, marry the generous one!]
Winona added: [With Yosef’s wealth, at least you wouldn’t have to worry about marrying the wrong person and jeopardizing the Sargent Group.]
That hit home. As the sole heiress of the Sargent family, that was something Henrietta had to consider. The right husband would secure everything; the wrong one could lead to a disastrous end.
Charlotte continued: [Not just secure it. If Henrietta marries into the Nash family, the Sargent Group could grow ten, even a hundred times over. Even if something went wrong down the line, you’d still come out ahead.]
