Naomi frowned slightly.
She could hear the chatter of other students around her.
"Is Mr. Hughes's birthday such a big deal this year?"
"Whoa, a birthday party on a luxury yacht? That's insane! I can't believe I might actually get to go to a party on a yacht in my lifetime! Ahhh, I'm so excited! Can we really go? We don't even know Mr. Hughes."
Everyone on campus had heard of the big shots, but few actually knew them.
Who would have thought they'd be invited to one of their birthday parties?
"Of course they want you there. Rich people like them love to show off. To them, you're just one more place setting at the table. Don't get ahead of yourself."
The chatter continued for a while. When it was Naomi's turn, she didn't take the invitation.
"I—"
She was about to say she might not be able to make it, but Carter shoved the invitation into her hand as if he'd been shocked.
"The yacht leaves on time, so don't be late."
With that, Carter and his friends left.
Patricia had also received an invitation, but she immediately tossed it in the trash.
"What is wrong with him? What is he trying to pull?"
Naomi didn't know either.
And as far as she knew, Zebulon hated yacht parties because he couldn't swim.
He always refused any kind of water-based activity.
Naomi didn't understand why Zebulon was suddenly throwing a yacht party, but it really had nothing to do with her.
"Just ignore it. Let's study. You haven't forgotten who's teaching next, have you?"
Patricia let out a miserable groan.
The professors for their major were all eccentric in their own way. One of them loved to call on students during class, and even someone as thick-skinned as Patricia couldn't stand being put on the spot. She quickly pulled out her textbook to do some last-minute cramming.
