Lennon liked her?
Naomi’s heart skipped a beat.
She opened her mouth to argue on Lennon’s behalf, but the words wouldn't come out.
Her heart wouldn't lie to her.
Naomi couldn't deny that when she heard Patricia say Lennon liked her, her truest emotion was happiness.
Before Naomi could process her reaction, she remembered what her mother had told her.
She had plenty of other potential marriage partners to choose from, besides Zebulon.
But Lennon was not one of them.
Naomi lowered her eyes, a wave of disappointment washing over her. “Alright, stop joking about us. He's always acted like an older brother figure to me. He probably just sees me as a little sister.”
Patricia seized on a key point. “Oh? You’re disappointed that he only sees you as a sister? So you actually wish he saw you as a girlfriend, don’t you?”
Naomi: ???
“Did you fail your literature class? That's not what I meant at all!”
Stop overanalyzing!
Naomi, her face flushed, threw out, “I’m not talking to you anymore!”
She then fled into the bathroom.
Patricia’s voice was muffled by the closing door—
“Naomi, your face is so red!”
Naomi bit her lip and walked to the mirror, hesitating to look up.
Finally, she braced herself and slowly raised her head.
The girl in the mirror was flushed like a ripe tomato, her eyes flickering with emotion.
Naomi covered her face, feeling the heat from her skin. “Could it be that I really...” she wondered, both helpless and shocked.
Before she could figure it out, her phone rang.
