Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 205

Everyone in the room was on edge, except for Naomi, who wore a faint, calm smile.

Mrs. Gonzalez noticed this detail, and her stomach clenched. She had a feeling that things were starting to spiral out of her control.

"Naomi..." Mrs. Gonzalez instinctively reached for Naomi's hand. Naomi turned to her, her eyes devoid of emotion. "Yes, Mom?"

Hearing her daughter's tone, the strange feeling in Mrs. Gonzalez's heart intensified.

Why?

She felt the warmth and affection between them slowly vanishing. Her daughter used to be so obedient and attached to her.

Why did she now treat her like a stranger?

"Naomi, do you know what's going on?"

Mrs. Gonzalez glanced at Mrs. Hughes, who was still talking to the police, her expression grave. "If you know what's happened, don't keep it a secret. She's going to be worried sick."

Naomi looked at her mother, her face screaming, "I knew it."

She had been acting so strangely today. Anyone who cared about her would have asked what was wrong by now.

She had seen her mother's pupils contract earlier, a clear sign she'd noticed something was off. Yet, she had ignored her, her only concern being whether Zebulon was in trouble.

Oh, Mom, she thought, who is your real child?

Naomi didn't want to blame her parents. She had always known they loved her, and that everything they did was to groom her, to make her a better person.

But in this moment, Naomi was truly exhausted.

She felt like her entire life's persistence had become a joke.

Perhaps all her parents ever wanted was an obedient doll who would bend to their will.
