Naomi couldn't help but question her judgment all these years.
Could a man as utterly devoid of empathy as Zebulon really be the same person who had saved her back then?
What she had fallen for was his warmth…
“What’s with that tone? Are you saying you’ve been wronged? Do you need me to list all the things you’ve done recently?”
They were approaching the spot where he was supposed to carry out the bet, and Zebulon’s voice grew impatient. “Naomi, this is your last chance. You’d better think carefully.”
Naomi’s expression hardened. “I will not apologize.”
She was the one who had been humiliated and trampled on. She would never apologize to Zebulon.
A flicker of annoyance crossed Zebulon’s face.
“Fine, you said it!”
Zebulon slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a screeching halt.
As Naomi watched in confusion, he quickly got out, walked over to her side, and yanked the door open, pulling her out.
Seeing Naomi stumble in surprise, Zebulon instinctively reached out to steady her. But then he remembered his friends were watching, and he hardened his heart.
He had given her a chance but she was the one who didn’t take it.
“Naomi, being stubborn won’t win me back.”
“You can just stand here and think about it!”
With that, Zebulon jumped back in the car, floored the gas, and sped off. Before Naomi could even say a word, all she could see was the back of his car disappearing down the road.
It took her a long moment to process what had just happened. Had Zebulon just abandoned her on the side of the road?
Their neighborhood was one of Tyra’s most affluent, famous for its beautiful environment but also notoriously inconvenient.
There were no bus stops or subway stations nearby; the wealthy residents all used their private cars. But now she was stranded in an awkward spot, on a one-way street, so a driver couldn't even come to pick her up.
