Seeing an unfamiliar local number on her screen, she hesitated for a moment before answering.
“Hello, this is Naomi.”
Colin was taken aback by her formal tone. “Hey, Naomi! Why are you being so distant with us? Did you not save my number?”
Naomi fell silent.
In reality, she hadn’t just not saved it; she had deleted it but forgotten to block him.
Since she had decided to cut ties with Zebulon, it made no sense to keep his friends’ numbers.
“I’m sorry, can I help you?” Naomi’s voice was icy.
Colin felt a pang of awkwardness. Normally, his pride would have made him hang up after such a cold reception.
But he was worried about Zebulon. “Um, Naomi,” he began softly, “has Zebulon contacted you at all?”
Colin waited anxiously for her reply.
Instead, he heard the dial tone.
Colin stared at his phone in disbelief.
“What the hell? Naomi is really serious this time! She hung up on me the second I mentioned Zebulon!”
Jonathan scoffed.
“When has Naomi ever really stood up for herself?”
“Whatever. It’s better if she’s not involved right now. Let’s just go.”
Colin agreed. Since Zebulon hadn’t contacted Naomi, it was probably best to focus on finding him.
He didn't want this to blow up into something they couldn't control.
After all, they had all gone out drinking together. If there were consequences, they would all be in trouble.
