It felt like a gaping hole had been carved into her chest, letting a cold wind rush in.
"Then what are you still clinging to?"
Naomi tilted her head, her expression one of genuine confusion. "Zebulon, let me go, and I'll let you go. Wouldn't that be better?"
"No!"
Zebulon blurted out. "Naomi, you were the one who started following me around without my permission. I told you from the beginning that I didn't like you. You were the one who shamelessly chased me. What right do you have to just walk away after I've gotten used to you being here? What do you take me for?"
"Am I just something you can discard whenever you feel like it?"
Naomi was so taken aback by Zebulon's twisted logic that she almost laughed.
"Yes, I was the one who shamelessly chased you back then. But did I ever do anything to hurt you?"
"That time with Tiffany, when you both trampled on my dignity... anyone else would have slapped you both senseless. Wasn't I patient enough?"
Looking back on that day, Naomi felt she had been far too weak.
Zebulon had let Tiffany humiliate her like that, and she hadn't even fought back. If it weren't for the relationship between their families, she would have told both sets of parents long ago.
She highly doubted her parents would still force her to marry Zebulon if they knew he had pushed their daughter into doing something so degrading.
"Zebulon, I have done more than enough for you. Let's just part ways amicably. Stop harassing me."
Naomi's face was a mask of indifference.
In that moment, Zebulon finally realized that Naomi was truly giving up on him.
But how could that be?
Zebulon was completely baffled. "When did all this start?"
His eyes were filled with confusion. "Everything was fine before. Was it just because of that day, because I pushed you like that for Tiffany?"
"But you could have said no, couldn't you? We're all from the same circle. If you had refused, do you really think I would have forced you to do it?"
Naomi almost laughed out loud.
That private room was filled with Zebulon's friends. If she had refused, she would have been publicly humiliating him.
