ROMAN
I barely open my eyes before the sound of Carmen's voice fills my ear.
"...really appreciate your support, Roman! It's like you don't listen to a thing I say! I told you not to miss dinner, because we'd have some important people over at our table that I wanted you to meet, but you just insist on doing your own thing! Where even were you?"
Looking for Nikki. I didn't see her all night, although Sebastian was around with his family. He seemed upset though, and that made me, in turn, very upset.
Because if he put his hands on my girl or did anything to upset her, I'd fucking kill him before throwing him off this ship and I mean that.
I really do.
"You're not even listening to me, are you?"
I'm jolted out of my thoughts and my gaze settles on her. She's leaning against the doorframe of the bathroom, watching me through slitted eyes. Her arms are folded over her chest, and she's in white lingerie.
She slept in it last night. I don't know why she even tries.
Carmen slowly shakes her head. "You're an asshole, you know that?"
I remain in my position on the bed. I came to the room to grab something and she started with her endless blabbering.
My note has probably been delivered by now. I only left the bar when I made sure she got it.
Now, all that's left for me to do is wait for the sun to go down. I won't follow her around, not today. And anyway, I can't be too obvious because I don't want Carmen to come across her, and if it happens, she won't suspect that I've been talking to her.
Thankfully, Carmen and her family interact elsewhere on the ship. They don't eat at the same places. They don't know the same people.
I'm not ignorant enough to believe they might not come across each other, but we've got multiple stops. People are coming in and out of this place.
It won't be easy.
Suddenly, she's standing right in front of me, grabbing my face. Her nails dig into my skin lightly. "You're not even listening to me! Again!"
I brush her fingers away and try to rise from the bed but she straddles me and holds onto my face desperately, a pleading look in her eyes. "Why do you do this to me? You know it hurts me when you ignore me and all you do is act like I don't exist!"
I try to push her off me but she holds onto me. Her arms tighten around my neck and a deranged look distorts her features. "You're married to me! I'm your wife!"
I lose my patience with her. I stand up and push her to the ground. "Stop it, Carmen! You're not going to get through to me. I married you. Isn't that what you wanted? What your father demanded of me?"
Tears pool in her eyes and her gaze slides down my body. A wicked smile thins her lips. "I know that angers you because you're a proud man, but I know you want me. You always have. You're hard right now."
"What makes you think it's for you?" I challenge. Her delusion concerns me, but not enough to keep me tied to her side.
I've made many mistakes, but this won't be one of them.
Carmen rises, her teeth clenched in anger, and slaps me across the face. "Bastard!"
I push past her and head to the door. She flings something at me—a shoe, maybe—but I ignore it and shut the door firmly behind me.
Fuck. Time seems to be crawling by.
Will Nikki come, or will she ignore the note? If she doesn't show up, I'll hunt her down and make sure she listens to everything I have to say to her.
I'm winning her back.
And once she finds out the truth, she'll forgive me. My baby isn't unreasonable—she's fiercely loyal. I broke her trust once, but it won't happen again, and that cunt doesn't deserve Nikki's loyalty.
