Simone immediately pulled out her phone and started searching. The news of the impending alliance between the Thorne and Rogers families wasn't officially announced, but it wasn't a secret either. She quickly found articles about Winona's engagement to Elvis.
So that was it.
No wonder none of her friends who had met Winona before had said anything after Miss Thorne's identity was revealed. They must have known Winona was engaged to Elvis and felt too awkward to bring up the fact that she used to date her son. They were probably laughing at her behind her back.
The thought made Simone sick. She sank onto the sofa and burst into tears.
If only Tyson and Winona had never broken up! The memory of her past disdain for Winona's background made her feel like a complete fool.
Celia watched her mother's breakdown with cold eyes, her resentment growing. Tyson was just like his mother—selfish to the core. One minute she was heartbroken over the miscarriage, the next she was mourning her lost connection to the Thorne family, completely forgetting that Winona had supposedly “caused” it.
“Wait a minute,” Simone said suddenly, remembering something. “Didn't Ty and Nona get a marriage certificate? Did they get a divorce?”
“Hah,” Celia sneered. “Your precious son fooled her with a fake certificate. I'm sure she found out a long time ago.”
One bombshell after another left Simone reeling. She leaned back on the sofa, struggling to breathe.
“No!” she suddenly exclaimed, jumping to her feet. “I can't let it end like this!”
