A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 155

Fairfax was rushed to the hospital in a chaotic frenzy. By the time he arrived, Darleen and Brinley had already heard the news that he'd been poisoned.

When they saw the emergency team wheeling him in, however, Starla was nowhere in sight. Their simmering resentment toward her, which had been building for weeks, boiled over.

"Where is Starla?" Darleen shrieked.

"She's… she's dealing with the nutritionist who poisoned the food," Molly stammered, having accompanied them.

That Renee would dare to use poison was shocking enough, but Darleen wasn't buying it for a second. The word 'poison' sent her into a rage. "Dealing with her? I'll bet she was the one who did the poisoning!"

After all the trouble Starla had caused recently, Darleen was convinced she was capable of anything, including murdering the entire Yelchin family. The claim that she was handling the 'real' poisoner was absurd. What motive would a nutritionist have?

Darleen had only recently been discharged from the hospital herself, and the stress was making her dizzy. When Fairfax was brought in, he was already unconscious and was taken directly into emergency surgery.

"What have we done to deserve this?" Darleen wailed, collapsing into tears. "What kind of monster did we let into our family?"

Brinley, pale and shaken in her wheelchair, tried to soothe Darleen. "Don't worry. Faraday will be alright."

Faraday again. It was all part of her act. In front of any member of the Yelchin family, she always referred to Fairfax by his deceased twin's name, reinforcing their belief that her depression was severe. Since Fairfax and Faraday were identical, everyone pitied her for being unable to accept his death.

"What are you waiting for? Make the call!" she bellowed at Sally.

Sally flinched. She was terrified of Fairfax. Despite all the chaos Starla had caused, it was clear that he still cared for her deeply. He had protected her through everything. If they had Starla arrested while he was unconscious, his wrath upon waking would be terrifying. So, Sally remained frozen, unwilling to make the call.

"Useless! Fine, I'll do it myself!" Darleen fumed, pulling out her own phone.

"This is pure evil! If she doesn't learn her lesson this time, she'll think she can get away with anything!" She muttered, her thumb hovering over the numbers.
