A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 190

Tiberius was a manservant who had been by Annika's side for many years. They were inseparable, their bond closer than just master and servant. Annika had just seen him this morning. And now...

"A dog that gives his master bad ideas doesn't deserve to live," Fairfax stated coldly.

"Fairfax, have you gone mad?" Annika shrieked, her usual composure gone. "Tiberius has been with me for years! Are you doing this to threaten me?"

The car window was halfway down. Fairfax lit another cigarette, took a drag, and blew the smoke out. "I'm glad you recognize it as a warning, Grandma. I was worried you might not get the message."

"You... you—"

He hung up before she could finish.

Mad. Utterly mad! That was the only way Starla could describe him now. He was a complete and utter lunatic. That was his own grandmother, yet he'd just had her servant killed without a second thought.

Fairfax exhaled another cloud of smoke and turned to Starla, a twisted smile playing on his lips. "How was that? Does that count as revenge for you?"

He was different today, she realized. It must have been the poisoned broth. The fact that she had knowingly fed it to him had shattered his perception of her. He had always believed she loved him deeply, that their current conflict was only because she couldn't tolerate the abuse from his family. But yesterday had changed everything.

Faced with this new, unhinged version of Fairfax, Starla curved her lips into a smirk. "Killing Tiberius? What kind of revenge is that? He wasn't the one who ordered the poison. Your grandmother was. If you really want revenge for me, you should kill her."

So he wanted to be crazy? Fine. They could both be crazy!

Inside the villa, he threw her onto the sofa. She tried to scramble up, but he was on her in an instant, his body pinning her down.

"You absolute—"

"Did you think you could force me into a divorce this way?" he snarled, his face inches from hers.

Starla fell silent, her eyes blazing.

"You can be more vicious," he whispered, his voice a chilling threat. "Keep pushing. Let's see if I don't drag you down to hell with me!"
