The baby was still her grandson, after all. Despite her current dissatisfaction with Brinley, she couldn't bear the thought of anything happening to her own son Faraday's child.
"I've already sent people," Fairfax said, then walked directly over to Starla. She was clearly exhausted from the ordeal, her face etched with fatigue.
Fairfax took her hand and pulled her up from the chair. "Let's go."
"Where are you going now? The child is still in there!" Darleen's temper flared at the sight of Fairfax trying to leave with Starla again.
"What's the point in staying? It's not like I'm a doctor," Fairfax retorted coolly.
"But if you're here, you can make decisions if something happens!" Darleen argued.
"And you, his grandmother, can't?"
"You…" Darleen was speechless.

To Starla, however, his behavior was utterly laughable.
After Fairfax left with Starla, Darleen felt her chest tighten with anger. Her legs gave out, and she sank onto a bench in the corridor.
"He is Faraday! My Faraday! He is my husband!" Brinley cut her off fiercely before she could finish.
Darleen stood in stunned silence.
"The one who died was Fairfax, not Faraday! Not my husband!" Brinley declared.
Depression, was it? With an illness like that, who could ever tell what was real and what wasn't?
Darleen's heart pounded. "I told you, that's Fairfax," she insisted, her own tone hardening.
Brinley stared back, the hatred in her eyes growing colder.
Xenia, sensing the escalating tension, felt her own heart race. "Mom, don't…"
