A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 204

The humiliation she had suffered outside Farley Group that afternoon was still fresh in her mind, and now Starla's words were like salt in the wound.

“Instead of worrying about whether I’m involved with Herbert, you should probably focus on how you’re going to get involved with him yourself,” Starla retorted coolly.

“You…!” Xenia was so enraged she felt she might faint. The taunt was sharp and deliberate.

“Mom, look at her!”

Unable to handle Starla on her own, Xenia turned to Darleen for help.

Darleen, whose head was already pounding, snapped, “That’s enough. What is there to look at?” She had no desire to even glance at Starla. The woman’s words were like poisoned needles, each one finding its mark.

Xenia stomped her foot in frustration and shot Starla a venomous glare.

At this point, all Starla wanted was to rest. After standing for a short while, she felt a wave of fatigue and found a nearby place to sit.

From a distance, she heard Fairfax’s tense voice. “Is Justin Gass the only option?”

His team had just arrived in Yoran Country to meet with him but had run into difficulties. Justin was rumored to be an eccentric genius. Fairfax had once thought that no matter how peculiar a doctor was, they wouldn’t disregard a patient’s life. But now, when his people couldn’t even get a meeting, he realized this man’s eccentricity might be a serious problem.

Fairfax frowned. “We need to find Justin.”

“Then let’s find him,” Brinley said urgently. “We can’t let anything happen to the baby, Fara…”

The second half of the name died on her lips as Darleen shot her another sharp glance. Brinley swallowed the rest of her words, a suffocating feeling tightening in her chest. But faced with Darleen’s authority, she didn’t dare protest, especially not with her mother’s situation in Yoran Country still so precarious.

“Can we find him?” Darleen asked, her voice strained.
