A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 274

"They still think you're the same girl who just left the orphanage, someone they can push around however they want," Tanya said with disgust.

"That's because they still have no idea about my real situation," Starla said with a knowing smile.

Tanya fell silent. That was the crux of it. The entire Yelchin family was oblivious to the fact that Starla had a powerful brother and father. They had no clue she was the beloved princess of the Hoggart Group, a family that controlled nearly half the world's wealth!

Back at the Yelchin Group headquarters, Xenia was still waiting outside the reception room. The entire secretarial staff was forced to stay late, afraid to leave while the family members were still present.

All except for Vivian, who had packed up and left the second her shift ended, showing no regard for the unspoken rule about not leaving before the boss.

But Xenia had bigger things to worry about than a defiant assistant. The priority was Starla.

The reception room door opened, and Xenia immediately rushed to her mother's side. "Mom, what's going on?"

Fairfax's dark mood had kept her from asking him anything earlier, and when Darleen had locked herself in the room, the sounds of shouting had made her even more hesitant to inquire.

Darleen glanced at her daughter but didn't answer. "Is your brother still here?"

The phone call with Starla had left her fuming for a solid hour, and the anger still simmered in her chest. That woman was infuriating beyond words. But then she remembered Starla wouldn't be able to spend a single cent of the money, and her mood improved slightly.

"I said, sign it!"

This pest had to be divorced from Fairfax before she was sent to prison. Otherwise, any future mention of her would still drag the Yelchin name through the mud. Darleen had had enough of that. She never wanted to hear Starla's name associated with the Yelchin family ever again.

Fairfax let out a short, cynical laugh. "She's demanding a fortune, and you're okay with that?"

"Yes, I'm okay with it. I agree to all of it. Are you happy now?" Darleen snapped, her voice dripping with resentment.

As far as she was concerned, it wasn't real money Starla was getting. It was just a number on a page.
