A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 342

Fairfax rubbed his throbbing temples. “This meeting is adjourned for today.”

“Will there even be a next meeting? Or rather, will the Yelchin Group still exist by then?” one of the directors shot back, clearly dissatisfied that Fairfax was leaving without offering a solution.

Fairfax glared at the man, his eyes cold.

“If Mr. Yelchin’s family affairs are too much to handle, perhaps it’s time to step down as CEO and let someone with more time manage the company,” another director added.

Fairfax remained silent, as did Gabriel. The already tense atmosphere in the room turned glacial.

It was obvious the recent scandals had taken their toll. The board members were well aware of the public feud between Starla and the Yelchin family.

“Mr. Clarke, that’s a serious accusation,” Gabriel interjected.

“Is it? We supported the Yelchin family’s leadership because we believed Fairfax was capable,” Mr. Clarke retorted. “When we helped the old patriarch build this company, we invested everything we had. We can’t let it all be destroyed like this.”

Fairfax’s eyes narrowed. “Everything you had? How much was that, exactly?” he asked, his sharp tone cutting through the tension and silencing the room.

“What do you mean by that?” Mr. Clarke demanded.

“You know exactly how much this company has paid you over the years. If you think you can use that to threaten me now, then sell your shares and get out,” Fairfax stated flatly.

Gabriel and the other shareholders were stunned into silence.

“If you can handle her for me, I’ll do anything you ask,” Fairfax grumbled.

“Handle who?” Caden asked, confused by the vague statement. “Wait, you’re not talking about Starla, are you? Because I can’t touch that with a ten-foot pole.”

Caden made his position clear immediately. The history between Starla and the Yelchins involved a death. He didn't have the power to fix something that broken.

Fairfax just gave him another icy glare. Caden felt a shiver run down his spine. “You can’t handle her either, can you?”

Fairfax didn't answer, but his already dark expression became even stormier. For a man, admitting he ‘couldn’t handle’ something was an admission of powerlessness. And when it came to Starla, he was utterly powerless. She was completely out of control!
