A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 360

Even with the massive upheaval at the Yelchin estate, Fairfax’s father, Harley, had only made a single, brief appearance at the hospital before flying abroad again. As for Fairfax’s grandmother, Annika, she was as formidable as ever. She knew exactly what was going on between them—she had even tried to poison Starla.

“Who knows?” Starla said. “Darleen has always prided herself on being the most capable daughter-in-law in the Yelchin family. For all we know, she hasn’t told Annika or Harley a thing about what’s been happening.”

If Harley knew the current state of the family, he surely wouldn’t be this quiet. It was too quiet.

“If they come back, do you think it will cause problems for you?” Tanya asked, concerned.

Rumors about Harley from his younger days still circulated. Fairfax had only been able to take over the company so smoothly because of his father’s immense influence. If Harley returned, Tanya worried Starla wouldn’t be able to handle him.

“What’s there to be afraid of?” Starla asked.

“You’re right. You’re not the same person you were before. You don’t have to be afraid of anyone now.”

Realizing Starla had the Hoggart Group behind her, Tanya relaxed.

“Did you really burn down Luwood Mountain too?”

“Yeah. They can’t have an escape route,” Starla stated simply.

Tanya was silent for a moment. Then, she let out a dry laugh. It was perfect. She remembered how Darleen used to threaten Starla before she married Fairfax, telling her to get out of Marina City or she’d make sure she could never survive there. In the end, those threats never came to pass. Instead, it was the Yelchins whose escape routes had been cut off, one by one.

After chatting a little longer, they hung up.

His voice was laced with a bitter resignation.

Darian and Caden exchanged a glance. He was letting go of Starla? Seriously? Given his temperament, getting him to give up on her was next to impossible. What had changed?

Thinking about the fires that had swept through Marina City that day, Caden asked, “You finally couldn’t take her constant rampages?”

Fairfax took another swig of beer, but made no response.

“She really went all out this time,” Darian commented. “And this time, it was all aimed at the Yelchin family.”

Before, her attacks had mostly targeted Brinley and Harriet. But now… Starla had declared all-out war on the entire Yelchin clan.
