A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 389

Seething, he stormed up the stairs to find her. He wanted to strangle her right then and there. Yes, his mother had been completely in the wrong before, and Starla had every right to ignore her. But she had no right to treat his mother and sister like this. How dare she, a junior member of the family, torment them this way?

Fairfax stormed towards Starla's room, but her bodyguards blocked his path. Already seething, he didn't hesitate to throw a punch, and a brawl erupted in the hallway.

He was a skilled fighter, but Starla had brought too many men. As soon as he took down two, two more lunged at him. Before he could deal with them, others heard the commotion and rushed to join the fray. Outnumbered, Fairfax was quickly pinned to the floor.

"Let go of me!" he roared, struggling like a madman. "Starla, get out here!"

Garret appeared, standing over him with a condescending gaze. Seeing that Fairfax was about to wake Starla, he gave a curt order. "Take him downstairs."

This was the new Starla. Once she went to bed, no one was to disturb her. Not even her own husband.

"Starla!" Fairfax bellowed again, but one of the guards clamped a hand over his mouth and they dragged him away.

After their little performance, Darleen and Xenia had assumed an enraged Fairfax would make Starla’s life a living hell. They never imagined he’d be subdued by her bodyguards just moments after going upstairs, treated with the same rough indifference they had been.

Seeing her son manhandled like this, Darleen’s eyes burned with fury. "You bastards, let him go! Who do you think you are, treating us this way in our own home?"

She lunged forward, but one of Starla's staff members stepped in and slapped her hard across the face.
