Starla's reply came almost instantly: [Always.]
Reading the message, Caden finally felt his tense shoulders relax.
That petty lady, he thought, threatening him over Fairfax just moments ago. Then again, he'd always maintained a neutral stance in his friends' arguments. He never meddled, and he hadn't wanted to get involved this time either. It was Fairfax who had insisted.
Honestly, when a couple fights, they should just sort it out behind closed doors. Why did they have to drag him into it?
Just as Caden's car pulled away from the Yelchin estate, his phone rang. It was Fairfax.
Caden answered. "Fairfax."
"Did she agree?" Fairfax asked immediately.
"I'm afraid I won't be able to earn that five million you offered," Caden said with a sigh of regret. Not that he needed the money, but the fact that Fairfax was willing to pay him to persuade Starla showed just how desperate he was. Caden had tried, but it was a lost cause.
Fairfax's expression darkened. "What do you mean?"
"She won't divorce you."
Sitting in his office, Fairfax's face turned grim at Caden's words.
"She was desperate for a divorce before!" he snarled. "Didn't you ask her why she refuses now? I'm offering her a fortune, and she still won't leave. What the hell does she want? Does she want to drag the entire Yelchin family down with her? What good will that do? Is she only happy when everyone in this family is miserable?"
