A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 428

He was losing his patience. “Fine, I’m hanging up.”

Maybe he was overthinking it. Someone like Starla… how could she possibly have connections to the Hoggart Group? She just wasn't capable of it.

Just as Fairfax was about to end the call, Caden stopped him. “Fairfax.”

“What is it?”

Had Caden changed his mind? Was he going to tell him something? Did Starla really have a connection to someone at Hoggart? If so, that was not good news for him.

“That project in Nexberg,” Caden said, “I want to pull my investment.”

“What did you say?” Fairfax’s face darkened instantly.

All of his overseas projects had been torpedoed by the recent trouble from Yoran Country, and now Caden was backing out of their partnership? It was like kicking him while he was down. His breathing grew ragged.

“Why?” he asked through gritted teeth.

“The Larson Group is facing some trouble right now. I need to free up the capital,” Caden explained.

“Are you not aware of the trouble the Yelchin Group is in?”

“I am…”

And that was precisely why he had to pull out now. After learning about Starla’s connection to the Hoggart Group, Caden was convinced the Yelchin Group was finished. Since it was a lost cause, his best move was to salvage the Larson Group's money first. He could help Fairfax later, once the storm had passed, but right now, with the Hoggart Group targeting him, no one could save him. Caden knew this better than anyone.

Fairfax closed his eyes, a wave of disappointment washing over him. “Fine.”
