A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 438

Brinley couldn't believe it. After she had poured her heart out to Felix, detailing the torment Starla was inflicting on her, his only response was to tell her to go back to work at the Yelchin Group.

“Go back to work?” she scoffed. “Do you have any idea what’s happening here? No vehicles are allowed onto the estate except for Starla’s. Even Fairfax has to walk in and out. How am I supposed to get to the office? Walk?”

Felix was silent.

“And besides that,” she continued, “the scandal has destroyed my reputation at the company. How do you expect me to just waltz back in there?”

She had been the vice president of the Yelchin Group, taking a temporary leave for Faraday's affairs and then her pregnancy. Now, at a time when Starla seemed intent on destroying her, Felix wanted her to return. She wanted to escape Marina City, not walk back into the lion's den! She couldn’t believe he could be so blind to her situation.

“Alright, darling, don’t be angry,” Felix said soothingly. “I’m just trying to make you see that if you leave Marina City now, everything we’ve worked for will be wasted.”

“Is it really that important?” she shot back, her voice sharp and cold. It was true they had been scheming for the Yelchin Group for years, and she had helped him immensely. But now, when she was the one who needed help, this was his response?

“Don’t you understand? If I stay in Marina City, I could die!” she cried.

With Starla, Herbert, and that mysterious man from Yoran Country all entangled, the situation was dangerously unpredictable. And Starla’s ruthlessness terrified her.

“She won’t kill you,” Felix said dismissively. “She wouldn’t dare. Look, darling, let me first find out why she suddenly decided not to go through with the divorce.”
