In the hell that Starla had created, she had almost forgotten that she had just given birth. She had two children, and both were unwell. Her daughter, the one with more severe problems, she had planned to use to frame Starla, but the woman was too cunning. The police still hadn't arrested her.
It had to be Herbert, protecting her so thoroughly that they couldn't touch her. Well, if she couldn’t win, she wouldn’t fight anymore. She wanted to leave Marina City, but her son was still in the hospital, too fragile to be moved. The poor child had been in intensive care since the day he was born.
“Then what do we do?” Brinley asked, her voice tight with suffocation. “I can’t live like this anymore!”
“I thought the Yelchins were treating you well,” Felix said, a note of confusion in his voice. “What’s so unbearable?”
Brinley hadn't told him about the family’s recent circumstances, and he had no idea what she was enduring. Hearing his question, all her pent-up misery finally found an outlet, and tears began to stream down her face. She told him everything that had happened at the Yelchin estate over the past few days.
When she finished, Felix’s voice was filled with rage. “Are you saying Starla was the one who set those fires?”
“Yes,” she sobbed. “Every property the Yelchins own, except for this estate, has been burned to the ground.”
“How did she manage that?”
“Herbert! I just told you, it’s all because Herbert is protecting her. It’s made her bold.”
The thought of Herbert shielding Starla made Brinley seethe with impotent rage. What was it about that bitch that made him so loyal?
“Darling, it breaks my heart to hear you’ve suffered so much,” Felix said softly.
His words, though small comfort, were a balm to her frayed nerves. Overwhelmed with self-pity, her tears fell even faster, but at least she felt a flicker of warmth in his concern.
