A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 454

His chest heaved with suppressed rage. "You're right. I'm the one who married her, and now I'm powerless against her! I'm pathetic! I'm a coward! Is that what you want to hear?" he roared.

Darleen went quiet.

So did Gabriel, who was still in the office.

"I'm the useless fool you all think I am! Are you satisfied now?"

With a final, furious shout, Fairfax hurled his phone against the wall. The loud crash made Gabriel flinch.

Fairfax squeezed his eyes shut, then opened them again, a storm of frustration raging within. He fumbled for another cigarette and lit it, taking a deep drag that consumed half of it in an instant. But even that couldn't quell the fire in his gut.

Gabriel stood by, unsure of what to say. He knew Starla's actions were extreme; in all of Marina City, no man had ever been so thoroughly tormented by a woman. She had blocked every possible avenue, leaving Fairfax with no way out.

...

Meanwhile, back at the Yelchin estate, while Darleen was raging at the heavens, Brinley was in a similar state of desperation. She repeatedly called the Seabrook family driver, but it was useless. He couldn't get the car onto the property.

Frustrated, she called Felix.

"Maybe I should just force my way in?" he suggested.

The idea sent a jolt through Brinley. A moment later, a look of realization crossed her face. "Fine. Break in, get me out of here, and drive me straight out of Marina City."
