A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 466

It was already midnight. Most restaurants were closed by now, so Felix took Brinley to a 24-hour fast-food place, hoping she would eat quickly so he could drop her off at the hospital.

He pulled up to the curb. "Hurry up," he urged.

It was absurd, having to deal with this in the middle of the night.

"Aren't you coming with me?" Brinley asked.

"Do you really think we can be seen together in public? Don't forget, our plan with the Yelchin family hasn't succeeded yet. If we're exposed now, it won't do either of us any good."

"The plan, the plan, that's all you ever talk about!" she snapped. "I'm at my breaking point, and you're still going on about your stupid plan?"

Brinley was sick of hearing about it. She felt like she was going insane.

"Are you... Are you going to eat or not?" Felix asked, his patience wearing thin.

"I'm eating. But I can't pay."

"How is that possible?"

Felix hadn't believed her before, but her persistence was starting to convince him.

Just then, Sally spoke up. "Mr. Fowler, what she's saying is true. Things have been very difficult for us at the estate."

Hearing it from Sally finally drove the point home. The skepticism on Felix's face gave way to shock. "Is Starla really that powerful now?"

"What do you think?" Brinley retorted.

"And Fairfax can't do anything about it?"

"Starla had Darleen beaten right in front of him. Does that answer your question?"
