A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 482

His gaze, now fixed on Starla, was dangerously sharp. "Fine, Starla. You're really something else."

"I can be even more something else," Starla replied with a chilling smile

Explanations were pointless. At this stage, even if Brinley herself cleared Starla's name, Fairfax wouldn't believe it.

Trust Brinley, was it? Fine, let him trust her for the rest of his life. Starla would make them both understand the true, agonizing cost of that trust.

"What else are you going to do?" Fairfax demanded.

"Garret," Starla called out.

"Yes, Miss."

"I don't want to see him right now. Throw him out."

'Him' was Fairfax.

That was what she wanted to do. Instead of answering his question, she had him thrown out.

At her command, several of the maids immediately advanced on Fairfax. His face darkened. "Starla!" he snarled through gritted teeth.

"You see?" Starla said calmly. "This is what I want to do. Just as you imagined, I do whatever I please."

"Don't go too far!"

"Throw him out," she repeated, her voice void of emotion. "And don't let him back into the estate today. He's an eyesore."

Fairfax's face was practically purple with rage. Just as two maids reached for his arms, he shot them a withering glare. "You don't have to. I'll walk out myself."

This damned woman. How had he never noticed her talent for slapping people in the face with their own pride? She was tearing his dignity to shreds, piece by piece.

Seeing Fairfax about to be thrown out, Brinley panicked. "Fairfax!"
