A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 483

Starla radiated a dangerous aura. Even Darleen, who had once held her firmly under her thumb, was now terrified by the sight of her.

Xenia was even more so. After several days of Starla's rule, she had become much more compliant, at least daring not to openly defy her anymore.

Seeing Starla treat Brinley this way, Darleen felt a dark sense of satisfaction. Xenia felt it too. They were too afraid to intervene, but they certainly weren't going to protect Brinley as they had before.

Brinley felt as if her leg was about to break under the pressure.

"You... let me go! It hurts—"

The pain was excruciating. She struggled to pull her knee out from under Starla's foot, but Starla's strength was overwhelming, leaving her no room to escape.

Seeing that Starla was unmoved, Brinley looked pleadingly at Darleen. "Mom, save me. Please, save me."

"Her? Save you? Ha!" Starla let out a scornful laugh at Brinley’s plea.

That mocking laughter made Darleen’s face flush then pale. A daughter-in-law walking all over her elders was a ridiculous situation to begin with, and now Starla was openly mocking her. It felt like a direct slap in the face.

Darleen was caught in a storm of grief and fury. She grieved for having ever cherished a person like Brinley, and she was furious at Starla for constantly trampling on her dignity.

Starla turned her gaze to Darleen. "You're not as naive as Fairfax, are you? You don't actually believe I forced her into Felix's car, do you?"

At the mention of Felix, Darleen’s expression darkened instantly. Starla's use of the word "naive" pushed her to her limit, and her gaze filled with suppressed fury.
