Herbert and Caden were both here, so Fairfax was certain Starla was in this hospital. Just as he was about to start searching room by room, he saw Tanya enter a ward and immediately followed.
Four bodyguards stood outside the door. When he tried to enter, two of them stepped in his way.
“Move!” he roared, his presence overwhelming.
Inside, Garret and Tanya heard his voice. Tanya’s face darkened.
“I’ll ask him to leave,” Garret said, his own expression grim.
“Let him in,” Starla said quietly.
“Why do you want to see him?” Tanya protested. After what happened today, she thought Starla should avoid Fairfax completely.
“We’re not divorced yet,” Starla replied.
Their marriage felt like a shackle Fairfax had placed on her. Once, she had willingly entered this cage. Now, all she wanted was to break free.
“Regarding the divorce, you can file a lawsuit. Your brother has already arranged for lawyers,” Garret informed her.
Tanya nodded in agreement. “Yes, just sue him.”
“And if I sue, and he refuses to agree, and just drags it out?” Starla countered. That was the problem.
Tanya fell silent. Starla was right. In Marina City, if Fairfax didn’t agree, even the best lawyer would struggle to finalize the divorce.
That was her condition. Her forgiveness for Brinley in exchange for their divorce.
Fairfax was stunned. When he heard the word divorce, his chest tightened. He opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out. He reached out again, this time managing to grasp her other hand, the one without the IV needle. It was cold, completely without warmth, just like the night before when he had held her for hours, unable to chase away the chill. He had thought it was just poor circulation. But now…
With a look of disgust, Starla yanked her hand back. The emptiness in his palm returned, colder this time.
“My lawyer will send the divorce agreement to your office,” she stated calmly. “Sign it, and the score between me and Brinley will be settled.”
The phrase ‘score settled’ was uttered lightly, half-sincere, half-not. But to Fairfax, it felt like a piece of his soul was being carved out.
He didn't respond to her terms. Instead, his voice hollow, he asked, “Were you really pregnant?”
