He was in shock, unable to believe what he had just heard. As Caden stormed away, Fairfax stood frozen in place for what felt like an eternity before shakily pulling out his phone. He opened his call log and saw a flood of missed calls from Molly, as well as his head of security. Then he saw the messages—from Molly, Caden, and even Gabriel.

He clicked one open. Caden: [Fairfax, what is wrong with you? Harriet going to see Starla now can’t be good. How could you have your phone off?]

Gabriel: [Sir, something’s happened to Mrs. Yelchin. Please call back as soon as you turn your phone on!]

Molly: [Mr. Yelchin, Harriet is here with her men! She won’t let the ambulance in! You have to come back!]

The messages, the missed calls… even through the screen, Fairfax felt a wave of suffocating pressure. And what had he just done?

He could barely breathe. He dialed the number for Petal Villa.

Molly answered. “Hello, this is Petal Villa.”

“It’s me,” Fairfax said, his voice strained.

The moment Molly heard his voice, she became frantic. “Mr. Yelchin?”

“Tell me everything that happened at the villa.”

“Mrs. Yelchin was bleeding so much… I called you, but you…” Molly’s voice broke, unable to continue.

For a moment, Fairfax’s mind reeled. He didn't remember how the call ended.

And he… what had he just done? He thought back to moments earlier, when Brinley had been crying in front of him. “Fairfax, it’s not that I’m being petty, but Starla is just too cruel. I can handle her coming after me, but why did she have to attack my mother? My mother never did anything to her.”

And he had come downstairs, turned on his phone, ignored every single one of these frantic messages and calls, and immediately dialed Starla to berate her. Harriet had nearly killed her today. And because of Harriet, he had called to question her?

Fairfax’s breathing grew ragged. One thought consumed him: Harriet was in the hospital because she had gone to Petal Villa to kill Starla.
