So, she had given up everything to be the perfect wife. She had imagined their future filled with grandchildren, growing old together in love.
But their happiness had reached its end just as it was beginning.
Her greatest fear had come true…
By the time she finished packing, it was already past midnight. She didn't have much—just five suitcases, large and small, and some miscellaneous items she planned to sort through in the next few days before moving out.
Exhausted from the long night and emotionally drained, Janina collapsed onto the bed and fell asleep almost immediately.
The next morning, she woke to bright daylight.
After washing up, Janina went downstairs to find Julius and Yvonne in the dining room, eating breakfast.
"Eat more of the steak and eggs, and have some shrimp. The doctor said you need to keep your nutrition up," Julius said, peeling a shrimp with gloved hands and placing it on Yvonne's plate.
"I can't possibly eat all this. I don't want to get fat," Yvonne protested, though she was clearly enjoying Julius's attention.
Yvonne looked up and saw Janina coming down the stairs.
She feigned embarrassment and nudged Julius. "Miss Holt is here."
Julius didn't even look up from peeling the shrimp. "Let her be."
He was still angry about last night's talk of divorce. He was waiting for Janina to come to him and apologize.
He never spoiled women.
For the past two years, she'd gotten used to being Mrs. Aurelius. Without him granting her that title, she was nothing.
She was really pushing her luck, daring to speak to him like that.
Julius stewed inwardly but kept his expression neutral, deliberately fussing over Yvonne in front of Janina.
He wanted to provoke her, to teach her a lesson so she wouldn't dare treat him that way again.
