"I'm not really sure about the details," Frank said, sounding vague. "Someone from the lower level handled it. I only found out once they were already called back."
Frank wasn't about to admit he was just following Ethan's orders.
Of course, Isabella wasn't clueless. Even if Frank didn't say it, she could tell this was Ethan's doing. She looked him right in the eye. "Ethan told you to do this, didn't he? Did he say anything else?"
"Isabella, you should ask Ethan yourself. It's not my place," Frank replied, keeping his distance from their mess.
Isabella went quiet for a second, then said, "Alright. I'll go talk to him later."
Frank quickly added, "Ethan still hasn't shaken his cold. When you see him, try not to argue with him."
Isabella frowned. "He still has a fever? I thought he already saw a doctor. Is he not taking his medicine?" She found it hard to believe. With Natalie fussing over him, Ethan still refused to take fever meds? Two days of a high fever... what if it did some real damage?
"He's always been scared of needles and medicine," Frank explained. "The doctor can prescribe all he wants, but if Ethan won’t take it, the fever just hangs on."
Frank looked at her. "Isabella, when you go to the office, try convincing him to take his meds."
She shook her head. "He won’t listen to me."
"You haven’t even tried," Frank pointed out. "How do you know you can’t change his mind?"
Isabella’s voice was cool. "Fine. I’ll bring it up when I see him."
She wasn’t about to let Ethan get seriously sick before she got her revenge. That would be letting him off too easy.
After the call ended, Laura looked over, concern written on her face. "What happened? Weren’t things all set? Why would they pull the team back at the last minute?"
