Even if Dylan Main agreed to marry Sophia, he’d still be chasing other women. Honestly, it’s not even certain he’d ever want to marry her. Dylan’s always said he doesn’t believe in marriage. He’s all about dating, not settling down. If he ever wanted kids, he’d just find someone to have them for him. That kind of man is never going to agree to a family arrangement.
Ethan had done business with Dylan a few times and, even though Dylan always came across as friendly and easygoing, Ethan had learned the hard way that he was actually sharp and sly. He’d been tripped up by Dylan’s tricks more than once, losing out on small deals. If Sophia ended up with someone like that, she’d be completely at his mercy.
Sophia liked to bring her friends over, always trying to matchmake Ethan with one of them, but she was still his little sister and Ethan would do anything to protect her. There was no way he’d let her rush into something dangerous.
“That’s right, Sophia. Listen to your brother. You’re not allowed to see Dylan Main,” Jennifer said, her tone leaving no room for argument. “Now that I know what you’re up to, I don’t want you going to the party at all. Ethan, don’t take her with you.”
Jennifer couldn’t stand the thought of her daughter marrying a man of thirty-five, not when Sophia was just in her early twenties and still so innocent. Someone like Dylan, who’d spent years fighting his way through the business world, would eat her alive. And besides, Kaston was more than two hundred kilometers away. Even if it was in the same province, to Jennifer, who adored Sophia, it felt like sending her off to a place she could never reach. She wanted Sophia to find someone local, someone who could come home for dinner anytime.
“Mom, Ethan, Mr. Main is only thirty-five. That isn’t old. Someone a bit older, a bit more mature, would know how to take care of me,” Sophia argued.
“We have the freedom to choose who we love and marry now. I really like Mr. Main. I want to see where things go. You can’t just stop me. You have to respect my choice,” she insisted, refusing to back down.
“No, absolutely not. If you really want someone older and more reliable, Jesse and Harold are both great options. They’re Ethan’s good friends, and we know their families well,” Jennifer shot back.
