Once she finished her pastry, Isabella glanced up and caught Natalie staring, her eyes sharp with jealousy. No doubt Ethan’s behavior earlier had rubbed Natalie the wrong way.
This woman just wants everything, Isabella thought. She already has Jordan, but she still clings to Ethan. And Ethan is so lovesick he’d probably give up his whole world for her. Isabella couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the thought.
“We were just chatting, nothing serious,” Isabella said, her tone relaxed. “My husband saw Linda here earlier, so he knows what’s going on. I’d never do anything to embarrass the Adams family.”
“Yes, the Adams Group and the White Group are rivals in business, but there’s no bad blood between us outside of work. Saying hello in public, having a quick conversation, it doesn’t mean anything. Besides, I’m not involved in any of the Adams Group business, and Linda can’t get anything useful from me anyway. Why should I be worried?”
Natalie leaned forward, not backing down. “I watched you for a while. The three of you were laughing and talking for at least half an hour. That’s not just a casual chat.”
“Isabella, whether it’s Barbara or Linda, they’re real heiresses. People like you aren’t exactly on their level. Don’t embarrass yourself trying to get close.”
Truth was, Natalie was jealous. Barbara and Linda had always kept their distance from her, but here they were, chatting and laughing with Isabella. Natalie just couldn’t stand it, so she took the chance to put Isabella in her place.
